JOKU PAIKALLINEN / SOME LOCAL

Some Local is a traveling, ever-evolving dance work based on the working group's interaction with the local environment and communities. The core idea lies in the interest on finding ways to make contemporary dance and the artists more accessible and approachable. The choreographic landscape, scenography and sound design of the piece are shaped into a new form according to each space it encounters, creating a unique version of the work for each performance space and community. In each location, the work aims to ask itself over and over again what does the accessibility of contemporary dance mean.

MOŸ MOŸ collective is a non-hierarchical artistic support network that navigates the dance scene together and supports each member as an autonomous artist. The collective gathers seven dance artists from Argentina, France, Finland, Brazil and Sweden. All members are currently based in Europe.

We founded the collective during our studies at London Contemporary Dance School in London in 2019. It was born out of friendship, mutual understanding of dance as an art form as well as a need and desire to navigate the dance scene together. We were transitioning from an educational environment to a professional one and seeked out each other for support.

As time went on the collective started taking shape. It was clear to us from the beginning that as dance artists we were not looking for a common physical language or form of research. As we started creating and being involved in different projects the title of a production company didn’t feel like us either. What we landed on was a collective, an environment, where we can find support and feel stronger and inspired about our future. We support each other in many forms from practicalities of administrative work to artistic guidance and moral support. Inside our collective we find colleagues to create with, share our disappointments and achievements as artists, share our experiences and knowledge and learn from each other.

The collective and what it is is not set. It is something that evolves with us as we go forward in our lives and careers. Always under construction and evolving. We meet online every Tuesday at 6pm UK time wherever we happen to be in the world.
